The UAW Education Department will hold its Bargaining Boot Camp on May 4-9, 2025. The conference will be held at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center in Onaway, Michigan.

This conference will provide intense training for local union bargainers to sharpen their skills both at and away from the table. We will place emphasis not only on technique, but also on how to take a strategic organizing approach to bargaining strong contracts. Relevant training to fit the various sectors represented by the UAW will be provided.

Delegates will be assigned to attend a class track that best fits their level of experience with collective bargaining. New bargainers will learn the important role of a local union bargainer, basic bargaining technique and strategy, and the basics of designing a contract campaign. Experienced bargainers will receive a refresher on technique with a heavy emphasis on strategy. Delegates will participate in mock bargaining activities to practice taking a bargaining demand from concept to reality in the contract. We will practice identifying members’ demands, drafting effective proposals, and mobilizing members to own their contract fights. In addition to assigned core training, delegates will have the opportunity to choose from elective workshops designed to target skill development in their areas of interest.

ELIGIBILITY TO ATTEND

This conference is open to active UAW members in good standing. Delegates must currently hold a bargaining committee position or be local union officers who support bargaining to be eligible to attend.

Attendance is mandatory at all sessions and is taken daily. Local Unions sending delegates will be responsible for payment of all lost time.

REGISTRATION

Local unions must register their delegates no later than March 24, 2025. The conference registration fee is $725 per delegate and must be paid by local unions using ACH. This registration fee covers the cost of lodging, meals, and materials and is non-refundable. Local unions will pay online through LUIS. Funds will not be withdrawn from local unions until after the region approves
the delegates, a process that will take place after online registration closes. Delegates must be registered by an officer or authorized clerical designee of the local union. Local unions should refer to the Local Union Process attachment for complete registration instructions.
